In January, Newbery Medalist Meg Medina was named the 2023-2024 National
Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. Meg’s platform is ¡Cuéntame!
Let’s Talk Books, and the amazing
video she released on
March 6 makes it clear that she’s deeply committed to making nonfiction part of
the conversation.
This is wonderful news!
And what’s even better is that it’s the second significant boost children’s nonfiction
books have received this year. The first was NCTE’s January 19 adoption of a Position
Statement on the Role of Nonfiction Literature (K-12). If you haven’t had a chance to read it
yet, I hope you’ll take this opportunity do so. It’s a powerful document.
Wow, there’s a lot to celebrate. It sure looks like 2023 is poised to become
the Year of Children’s Nonfiction!
