A recent question on social media made me realize that, although I updated the sample book lists included in 5 Kinds of Nonfiction: Enriching Reading and Writing Instruction with Children’s Books at the end of 2022, I never shared them here on my blog or on social media. So today I’m rectifying that.
Here are Sample Text Sets, which include books from all five categories (active, browsable, traditional, expository literature, narrative) on a specific topic. Topics now include birds, dinosaurs, activism, fashion, dogs, and ocean life.
And here are updated Sample Book Lists with more than 100 recently published books sorted into the five categories.
I hope these resources will help educators as they plan activities that introduce and reinforce the 5 Kinds of Nonfiction classification system.
