AASL
is my favorite conference. Hands down. So I was delighted to travel to Columbus
last week for the festivities.
On
Saturday morning, I participated in a panel about books that highlight the work
of changemakers along with Laurie Thompson (moderator extraordinaire), Shana
Corey, Loree Griffin Burns, and Don Tate. I had a great time talking about my A
Place for books and listening to the wise and inspirational words of my fellow
panelists.

After
a great book signing with Don Tate, I presented a workshop called Getting Ready
for Research: Building Skills in K-3. I wish I had taken a photo of my attentive
audience of 200 librarians. I’m going to be blogging about the content of this
talk later this year, but here’s the handout if you’d like a sneak peek.

After
that, I participated in a fast and furious author speed dating event with Candace
Fleming and Eric Rohmann, Matthew Cordell, Don Tate, J. Patrick Lewis, and Matt
de la Pena. I wish we had taken a picture.

And
finally, I sat down for a delicious dinner with Don, my Peachtree buddies, and
a dream team of librarians including Matthew Winner, Eileen Gardener, Sherry
Gick, Nancy Jo Lambert, Andy Plemmons, and Kurt Stroh.

Wow,
