Exploring the Joy of Nonfiction Reading and Writing

5 Kinds of Nonfiction Text Set 3

Because educators have let me know that they’d like
additional text sets to read and discuss with students as they use
this activity to introduce the 5 Kinds of Nonfiction classification system, I’m
sharing four more here this fall. You can scroll down to find text sets built
around the themes of dinosaurs and activism.

Today’s
topic is fashion.

Eyewitness: Costume by L. Rowland-Warne (browseable)

Fabulous Fashion Inventions by Laura Hamilton Waxman (traditional)

Fancy Party Gowns: The Story of Fashion Designer Ann Cole Lowe by Deborah Blumenthal
(narrative)

Fashion Design for Kids: Skill-building Activities for Future Fashion Designers by
Kerri Quigley
(active)

Why’d They
Wear That: Fashion as the Mirror of History by Sarah Albee (expository
literature)

You can
purchase these books and use them, or better yet, you can study them as a group
and use what you learn to create your own text sets with books already in your
collection.
